Year for Priests 2009 - 2010 On the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 19 June, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI inaugurated a 'Year for Priests'. The year will conclude in Rome with an international gathering of priests with the Holy Father from June 9-11, 2010. In conjunction with the Year for Priests, and on the occasion of the Anniversary of the death of Saint John Vianney, Pope Benedict also declared the Saint as the universal Patron of Priests. Year for Priests - Resources Pastoral Letter on the Occasion of the Octave of Prayer In preparation for the Octave of Prayer, the Bishops have written a Pastoral Letter to be read at all Mass on Sunday, 18 April 2010.
