Hamilton Diocese Opens the Year of Jubilee

Today, on the Feast of the Holy Family, intoning the words, "O God, you are the hope that does not disappoint. You are the beginning and end of all things" Bishop Richard Laurenson opens the Year of Jubilee in the Diocese of Hamilton.

Joined by priests, religious and people of the diocese singing hymns and chants, Bishop Richard lead us in procession from the Clyde Street convent to the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Jubilee Cross was visible for all who passed by.

At the doors of the Cathedral Bishop Richard invited all present to venerate the Cross as he proclaimed, "Hail, Cross of Christ, our only hope" and all replied, "You are our hope that does not disappoint."

Of particular note is that the choir at the Opening was an ecumenical affair. The Jubilee Hymn will now resound in different christian churches in and around Hamilton – that has to be a Jubilee grace in and of itself.
