Aotearoa-New Zealand Ordo

The Aotearoa New Zealand Ordo is a useful tool for those responsible for the preparation of the liturgy. Each day notes the relevant reference to the New Zealand edition of the Roman Missal. This means that the priest or sacristan can mark the specific pages needed for the celebration of Mass on any particular day.

The New Zealand Ordo is one of a number of essential aids in the preparation of good liturgy.

We no longer supply these books. Ordo is now published as a combined book with Australia and New Zealand information. Contact Pleroma for copies or else through Liturgy Brisbane.

Lectio Divina Leaflet

For Those Who Believe: Life is Changed not Ended

- National Liturgical Policy on the Order of Christian Funerals and Guidelines for Tangihanga

Catholic funeral liturgy is a celebration of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, into whom the one who has died was baptised, and a powerful prayer that this person be welcomed into the communion of the Saints in heaven. This policy is newly published by the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference (NZCBC). It recognises the challenges and sensitivity required of those involved in pastoral care for the one who has died and those who mourn within the Catholic community, in a manner that also respects cultural and family traditions.

RCIA Aotearoa New Zealand: Welcoming New Members

- National Policy Document for the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and Model Calendar for a One Year Catechumenal Cycle

What happens in the liturgical rites of the RCIA journey is powerful and important. The candidates and catechumens learn to “turn more readily to God in prayer” as they pray with the community. They walk with catechists and sponsors to come “to a profound sense of the mystery of salvation” and learn “how to work actively with others to spread the Gospel and build up the Church”. – RCIA Policy 9

National Policy Documents available for $2.00 and Model Calenders available for $1.00.

Hygiene at Mass: Concern For All, Genuine Hospitality

With the change of seasons, it is time to renew our awareness of best possible hygienic practices in the celebration of the Eucharist so we may safeguard the health of all, not just in this season of colds, viruses and other infections but every time we gather to celebrate Liturgy.

We ask that schools, parishes and communities take ownership of these brief reflections and assist members and ministers alike to understand that implementing good hygiene is an act of hospitality to our brothers and sisters in Christ.

A special note for Sacristans: Please read the guidelines for care of sacred vessels in the light of the manufacturer's instructions!

The Universal Prayer, that is, the Prayer of the Faithful - Inoinga A Te Hunga Whakapono

Guidelines for preparing the Prayer of the Faithful - a simple introduction

Through Baptism and Confirmation, Christ has made us part of a believing community who share in the priestly role of Christ (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1546).

One of the ways we step more closely into this priestly role is by praying the petitions for the needs of the Church and the world (General Instruction of the Roman Missal 69, 135). Although the Church prays for the same needs each Sunday, hopefully the language in which they are presented will be new and fresh in the way they reflect and link us to the liturgical feasts, seasons and scriptures of the liturgical year.

These Guidelines offer a simple introduction for those who are called to the ministry of composing the texts for the Universal Prayer, more commonly referred to as ‘The Prayer of the Faithful’. Preparing the intentions for the Prayer of the Faithful is “a craft in the service of the liturgy that requires divine assistance, human skill and the fruitful creativity in which both work together.”

More detailed assistance can be found in reference books such as “How to Write the Prayer of the Faithful, Corinna Laughlin, Liturgy Training Publications 2015. Copies of this book are available from Pleroma Christian Supplies: https://www.christiansupplies.co.nz/

Celebration of the Eucharist and Pastoral Care of those with Coeliac or Gluten Intolerance

Coeliac condition is an adverse reaction to gliadin, a protein present in gluten. Gluten is a constituent of common grains such as wheat, including the bread for the celebration of Eucharist. The Coeliac society estimates that 1 in 70 New Zealanders are effected by this disease.

It is the desire of the Church that as many of the faithful as possible are able to participate in the life giving celebration of the Eucharist. This document  seeks to enable this desire to be a reality for those with Coeliac or Gluten Intolerance. A copy of this document has been made available to parishes and schools to enable them to extend a welcoming and understanding hand towards those who live with these challenges.
