World Mission Sunday 23 October 2022

World Mission Sunday reminds us of the call of every Christian to bear witness to Christ.

"I continue to dream of a completely missionary Church, and a new era of missionary activity among Christian communities. I repeat Moses’ great desire for the people of God on their journey: “Would that all the Lord’s people were prophets!” (Num 11:29). Indeed, would that all of us in the Church were what we already are by virtue of baptism: prophets, witnesses, missionaries of the Lord, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to the ends of the earth! Mary, Queen of the Missions, pray for us!"

Pope Francis, 6 January 2022

World Mission Sunday 2022 has taken the theme from Acts 1:8  “You shall be my witnesses”.

Message from Pope Francis HERE

Sirach 35:12-14, 16-18

The prayer of the humble pierces the clouds…

Psalm 34: The Lord hears the cry of the poor.

2 Tim 4:6-8, 16-18

But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength,

So that through me the proclamation might be completed

Alleluia, alleluia

God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ

and entrusting to us the message of salvation.

Lk 18:9-14

For everyone who raises himself up will be humbled,

But anyone who humbles himself will be raised up.

You could choose from hymns such as:

Here I am Lord

Tell out my soul

Be thou my vision

Christ be our light

You have called us

Be not afraid

Lift high the Cross

Every parish, school and community is invited to join this special event, and your prayers and every dollar you give to Missio helps missionaries everywhere continue their work. For more information about the Pontifical Mission Society visit their website MissioNZ
